Types of sinks: features of the choice of models for the kitchen and bathroom

Buying a sink in the kitchen or bathroom fixtures in the bathroom, you need to take into account their size, materials, design. These are the characteristics that provide a comfortable and long use of products.

Wash selection criteria

Manufacturers are trying to satisfy the demands of customers, so the abundance of varieties of models is amazing.

Sizes and types of kitchen sinks

The most popular are the products of classical forms: square, rectangular, round:

  • square models are made with sides of 50, 60 cm. They are spacious, familiar look, comfortable working conditions in the kitchen. Very diverse in design, materials;
  • rectangular shells are usually manufactured with the parameters 50x55, 50x80, 50x125 cm. Models are distinguished by convenient operation, some are equipped with additional bowls and various functional devices;
  • round products are produced with a diameter of 45-51 cm. They have a compact, attractive appearance, they do not have additional sections.

For a corner installation, a non-standard triangular / polygonal kitchen sink can be used. Such sinks are best suited for large kitchens. It is advisable to equip small rooms with triangular models - space is significantly saved.

The bowl may consist of several sections, arranged symmetrically or on one side. For convenient use of the sink, some models have special surfaces - wings, where it is good to dry and lay out the dishes, food (fruits, vegetables).

Small types of shells are inconvenient due to splashing of water, it is difficult to wash high dishes in them, but a deep bowl creates a load for the back, therefore for comfortable work the optimal models are sinks with walls 16-18 cm high.

Washing material

The following materials are used for the production of kitchen models: stainless steel, ceramics, artificial stone.

Metal sinks are made of alloyed steel with the addition of chromium, nickel - to improve product performance and ensure anti-corrosion properties. Usually use steel sheets with a thickness of 0.4 to 1.2 mm. When choosing a model, one should keep in mind that “thick” washers are more durable and more reliable, but also cost more. The optimum sheet thickness - from 0.6 mm.

Shells are made using two technologies: stamping and welding. Stamped models have no seams (which is a guarantee against leakage), differ in smooth contours and low cost. Mostly produced with small bowls (about 15 cm). It is not always convenient for washing dishes - splashes scatter strongly.

In welded models, walls and bottom are made separately, which are then assembled. Modern technologies (laser welding) allow you to create a durable and reliable invisible seam. Models are made with bowls of different depths. Sinks stand out with thick walls and less noise during operation.

Installation options

A wide range of sinks allows you to choose different ways of their installation: invoice, mortise, integrated:

  • waybills - are installed on separately standing pedestals without a top. This is the easiest way to place in the kitchen for washing dishes;
  • Mortise model installed in the opening in the tabletop, carved under the sink of certain forms and parameters. Shell fasteners are fixed on the wrong side of the working surface. The gap between the face of the table and the edge of the shell eliminates the rubber seal;
  • The under-table sink / integrated is mounted so that its edges are located below the level of the tabletop or flush with it. It creates a visual effect of the "whole" - the bowl and table.

This installation option provides sealing joints and is suitable for kitchens made of wood, granite. High-quality installation ensures hygienic, clean, durable design.

When choosing the method of installation, it must be borne in mind that the overhead products are suitable for kitchen sets consisting of separate, independent elements.

Types of sinks in the bathroom

When buying a bowl, you need to pay attention to the following product parameters: shape, material, method of installation.

The most popular are models of several forms.

  1. Round / oval bowls are often found in the inexpensive washbasin range. The ability to "cut off" the part of the sink adjacent to the wall saves space. Make such bowls of small sizes. Such models fit perfectly into the classic and modern interior styles.
  2. Square or rectangular washbasins can have right or rounded corners. The inner shape of the bathroom sink does not always repeat the outer shape - in some sinks, the bowl has a rounded shape. And also there are models that look like boxes. Such plumbing, as a rule, has impressive dimensions and looks most harmonious in spacious bathrooms. These sinks complement the interiors in modern styles or minimalism, hi-tech.
  3. Angular types of bathroom sinks are available for compact rooms or guest bathrooms. Triangular shells have a flat or rounded base.

When choosing plumbing it is necessary to take into account that the dimensions of the washbasin should be in harmony with the area of the room.

Shell material

Manufacturers literally pamper customers with a variety of options. In addition to standard ceramic (earthenware and porcelain) bowls, you can pick up products from glass, metal, wood, plastic.

Traditional ceramic bowls (shells) are popular because of their durability, ease of maintenance, affordable cost. The main disadvantage is the instability to mechanical stress.

Stainless steel washbasins do not look standard. Modern design and polished surfaces make the sink into the decoration of a room, and its durability and democratic value increase its popularity. Products made of brass or bronze are highly valued and are produced by individual manufacturers.

Glass bath sinks are made of transparent, colored glass. Such products have become an integral attribute of the room in the high-tech style. The transparency of the material makes the sink invisible, which is important for compact rooms. Use in the manufacture of tempered glass ensures the strength of the product.

Wooden sinks for baths are set by real lovers of natural and environmentally friendly materials. Oak and larch wood guarantees long-term operation. Special wood impregnations and varnishes will protect the surface of the bowl from water.

At installations of wash basins three options of installation are applied:

  • The console bowl is attached to the wall with brackets. Advantages: saving space, low cost. Ideal for compact rooms. The disadvantage is the visibility of the drain system, which is completely corrected by various decorative techniques (curtain, patch panel).
  • pedestal shell design (tulip) includes two elements: a bowl and a stand. And the pedestal has several meanings: support for the sink, hides the drain, decorates the room. Such models harmoniously look in spacious rooms.
  • Built-in washbasin designs allow you to hide the drain system and create storage spaces for bathroom accessories. The variant of the counter sink, which is installed on the cabinet / nightstand and has the shape of a bowl, is becoming increasingly popular.

It is impossible to determine the quality of the metal, the strength of welding or the reliability of materials. Defects can only appear after a while. Only well-known manufacturers guarantee the durability and reliability of products, so it is better to purchase sinks of popular brands.
