Do-it-yourself wine cellar: proper storage of wine (22 photos)

The best collections of wines are always stored underground, where nature itself maintains the necessary conditions. The cellar is laid in a relatively dry area in order to eliminate waterlogging or flooding. At the same time, it is necessary to take into account the hydrology of the adjacent territory, the presence of groundwater. Their level is calculated by the depth of the well or well on the site (it must be at least a meter below the floor of the future basement). It is better to make an entrance to the cellar from the north, so that in summer it gets less sun.

The construction of the cellar

The construction process involves the following main steps:

  1. project development;
  2. processing materials with antiseptic;
  3. installation of climate control system;
  4. interior trim;
  5. installation of electrical wiring and doors;
  6. shelving;
  7. final finishing of the room.

All materials, especially those made of wood, must be moisture-resistant, non-toxic, odorless and pre-treated with an antiseptic that prevents the appearance of mold and other microorganisms.
The project of the wine cellar contains a floor plan, shelving, the quantity and cost of building materials.

Microclimate creation

Wine is very delicate, susceptible to any cataclysms. So that its taste does not deteriorate, for the wine cellar it is necessary to observe three parameters: temperature, air humidity, lighting. They are stable only with proper insulation of the room.

Optimally, 10–14 ° C, with less than 10 ° C, wine ripening slows down, rising to 18 ° C and higher affects the taste, leading to a loss of freshness. Undesirable sudden changes in temperature, because of which wine corks lose elasticity. As a result, air enters the bottle, and the quality of the wine can be forgotten.

The wine cellar should be located away from the heating pipes, the garage, the boiler rooms. Powerful power sources, a busy highway, a railway line create a destructive vibration. Near them the tab of the wine cellar for the house should not even be planned.

Significantly help the stability of the microclimate. Since they are not processed in any way, special models are needed, for example, thermal doors with a magnetic seal (like a refrigerator). It is better to refrain from large or bivalve, creating unnecessary air flows.

Heat and vapor barrier is required everywhere except for the doors, that is, for the floor, walls, ceiling. Before starting work, all these surfaces and the seams between them are treated with an antiseptic.

Reliable heat insulation is ensured by a plating made of porous materials with a thickness from four to ten centimeters, which are resistant to moisture and do not emit any aromas.

Climate control system makes vapor barrier mandatory. These are panels of half a centimeter, which cover the ceiling and walls. It is better to mount them from the outside; if this is not possible, installation inside is allowed.

So that the air does not stagnate, high-quality ventilation is always performed in the room. The optimal effect is provided by the installation of a system operating on the principle of "inflow-exhaust". At the same time, air must circulate throughout the entire space, and not be blown into the shelves with bottles.

The main furniture of the cellar - a wine rack - is created taking into account several major factors.

It is best to make a rack of wood, treated with special tools. In the first place, of course, oak, the wood of which creates and maintains the necessary microclimate for many years of wine storage. Also suitable maple or ash, durable, resistant to decay, well absorb moisture, without noticeable aroma.

As a rule, wine cellar racks and other wooden furniture are soaked with linseed oil or wax-based liquid. In this way, protection against moisture is created and the natural structure of the material is emphasized.

The second option is metal. The third, excellent, but costly solution is limestone, which retains temperature and is immune to mold. More storage will give the store shelves made of stone.

Rack for wine bottles made in the form of straight or inclined modules-sections. They are mobile, able to group at the request of the owner and taking into account the characteristics of the room. When drying the cellar, they are easy to dismantle, put into the sun, and then re-assemble.

For each bottle is provided a cell, square or hex. The first is universal, the second is more stylish for aesthetes. The length of the sections should be about 70 cm, with a larger deflection.
Making a wine rack with your own hands, for each shelf you need to attach a side for insurance.

Connoisseurs are terrified even the idea of the chaotic placement of bottles with a noble drink. Only a strict system: copies sent for long-term storage are sent to distant rows. The closest positions are occupied by containers, scheduled for opening first.

The drawers are good in this sense, allowing you to easily reach any bottle without disturbing the others.

The decision that makes the interior of the wine cellar original - the shelf-pyramid. Each triangular compartment contains a specific kind of wine.

A wine cellar in a private house can be supplemented with stylish paraphernalia. These are tables with chairs or a bar counter installed in the center and in harmony with shelves and shelves placed along the perimeter.

Of course, they are known to connoisseurs and experienced gardeners, but they can be useful for beginners to master this sphere.

  • A week before drinking wine bottles, they are placed vertically to make the sediment a donkey.
  • To restore the microclimate - after the old batch of wine has been exhausted, and the new one is planned for laying - you need to thoroughly air the room and fumigate it with juniper (chopsticks).
  • Bottles of wine should be in an inclined or recumbent position, and the cork should be washed with liquid.
  • A wine cellar is not a place to store canned food or vegetables. Their smell is guaranteed to destroy the aroma of wine.

The personal wine cellar, erected personally or in creative collaboration with experts, will become a place of rest from the hustle and bustle, pleasant communication, tasting and the pride of the owner. Or maybe he will introduce him to the elite caste of collectors and connoisseurs of the noble drink.
